William Curtis
William Curtis (1746–1799) was an influential English botanist, entomologist and publisher whose work helped shape botanical publishing in the late 18th century. Originally trained as an apothecary, he became known for combining scientific study with finely illustrated plant publications. His Flora Londinensis documented plants growing in and around London, while The Botanical Magazine, founded in 1787, brought together botanical description and accomplished colour illustration. Curtis worked with leading artists including James Sowerby and Sydenham Edwards.
