Philip Miller
Philip Miller (1691–1771) was an influential British botanist and horticultural writer who served as head gardener of Chelsea Physic Garden for almost fifty years. Under his direction, the garden became an important centre for the cultivation and study of plants. Miller is best known for The Gardeners Dictionary, first published in 1731, which became one of the leading horticultural reference works of the 18th century. His publications combined practical gardening knowledge, botanical observation and illustration, helping shape horticultural study in Britain and beyond.
