John Gould
John Gould (1804–1881) was a British ornithologist, publisher and draughtsman who became one of the most influential figures in 19th-century bird illustration. He produced lavish folio works featuring hand-coloured lithographs of birds from around the world, often working with artists including Elizabeth Gould and Edward Lear. Gould also examined specimens collected by Charles Darwin during the voyage of HMS Beagle and played an important role in identifying the Galápagos finches.
