Gould Style Exotic Birds - Set of 9
A fine set of nine lithographs of tropical birds after John Gould, from a 1950s edition of Tropical Birds. The plates are heightened with gum Arabic, a traditional finishing technique that adds subtle depth, sheen and richness to the printed surface. The result gives the birds a particularly vivid and decorative quality. John Gould was one of the most important figures in 19th-century ornithological publishing, and later editions of his work continued to celebrate the precision, elegance and visual impact of his bird illustrations. Each lithograph is presented in a bespoke handmade gilt bamboo frame behind TruVue glass, which helps reduce reflection while offering a degree of protection to the works.
