Louis van Houtte
Louis van Houtte (1810–1876) was a Belgian horticulturist, botanist and publisher best known for founding Flore des Serres et des Jardins de l’Europe. Published from 1845, the lavish horticultural journal documented newly introduced and highly prized plants through richly coloured botanical plates. Van Houtte also ran one of Europe’s leading nurseries near Ghent, helping shape 19th-century horticulture through plant collecting, cultivation and publishing.
