Pancrace Bessa

Pancrace Bessa (1772–1846) was one of the leading French botanical artists of the early 19th century, admired for the exceptional delicacy, accuracy and elegance of his studies of flowers, fruits and plants. He trained in Paris and was influenced by both Gérard van Spaendonck and Pierre-Joseph Redouté, becoming part of the distinguished tradition of French botanical illustration that flourished around the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle.
