3 X 19th Century Bessa Engravings
A set of 3 extremely fine hand-coloured engravings from:
Flore des Jardiniers,Amateurs et Manufacturiers...
Paris: Audot, 1836.
Pancrace Bessa was an outstanding pupil of Redoute and in the employ of the Duchess of Berry as a painter of natural history subjects.
In the legend, one can see the scientific and French names of the depicted plant. The name of the artist, "P. Bessa Pinx. " is always on the left side. The name of the engraver is on the right side and varies from engraving to engraving. The hand-colouring on these engravings is outstanding, almost like watercolours.
They are presented in bespoke frames behind UV70 glass which cuts reflection and affords the prints some protection.
