Johann Wilhelm Weinmann
Johann Wilhelm Weinmann (1683–1741) was a German apothecary, botanist and botanical publisher whose great illustrated work, Phytanthoza Iconographia, became one of the most ambitious botanical publications of the 18th century.
Born in Gardelegen, Weinmann settled in Regensburg in 1710, initially working as a pharmacist’s assistant before acquiring his own apothecary shop in 1712. His commercial success allowed him to pursue his strong interest in botany, establish a botanical garden and publish an early pharmaceutical catalogue in 1723.
