Van Houtte Floral Chromolithographs - Sets of 3/6/12
A beautiful collection of hand-finished botanical chromolithographs published around 1850 by Louis Van Houtte for Flore des Serres et des Jardins de l’Europe.
Van Houtte founded the publication, which appeared monthly for almost forty years and became one of the most important horticultural journals of the 19th century. Its plates are admired for their rich colour, decorative quality and exceptional printing.
These examples are notable for the craftsmanship of Belgian lithographers including Severyns, Stroobant and De Pannemaker, who were among the leading practitioners of colour printing from stone.
The resulting works combine botanical accuracy with vivid colour and strong decorative appeal, and examples from the series are increasingly sought after by collectors.
