Miller Pink Flower Engravings - Set of 3

A fine set of three 18th-century botanical engravings from Philip Miller’s Abbildungen der nützlichsten, schönsten und seltensten Pflanzen welche in seinem Gärtner-Lexicon vorkommen, published in 1768.

Philip Miller was a Scottish botanist and author who became head gardener of the Chelsea Physic Garden in 1722. Under his stewardship, the garden developed one of the largest and most important plant collections in Europe, earning Miller an international reputation for his horticultural knowledge and botanical expertise.

His work also contributed significantly to the development of botanical science, with experiments carried out in 1751 helping to demonstrate the important role played by insects in pollination.

Many of the plates were engraved from drawings by leading botanical artists of the period, including Richard Lancake and Georg Ehret. The resulting works combine scientific observation with the refined decorative quality characteristic of 18th-century botanical illustration.
