Rocques Mushrooms - Set of 9
A rare set of nine 19th-century mushroom engravings by Joseph Rocques, dating from 1832. Joseph Rocques ( 1760-1835 ) was a French physician and botanist famous for his work "Atlas des Champignons Comestibles et Venereux" ( Atlas of Edible and PoisonousMushrooms )
These exquisite copperplate engravings each depict a different species of mushroom and is distinguished by particularly fine hand-colouring, which brings out the subtle tones, textures and natural detail of the specimens.
The engravings have both decorative and natural-history appeal and work especially well as a coordinated set.
