A fine set of twelve hand-coloured lithographic plates from the first edition of Beverley Morris’ British Game Birds and Wildfowl, published in London by Groombridge & Sons in 1855. Dr Beverley Morris, younger brother of the Reverend F Morris , was a 19th Century physicianand natural history writer best known for his ornithological work . The book is an important 19th-century study of British game birds and wildfowl, combining natural-history interest with richly decorative illustrations by Benjamin Fawcett. Each plate is presented in a bespoke frame with a linen mount and TruVue glass, which helps reduce reflection while offering a degree of protection to the works.
