Captain Brown Owl

Captain Brown Owl

SKU: 00051

A rare hand-coloured engraving of a Hawk Owl from the first edition of Captain Brown’s scarce Illustrations of the Genera of Birds, published in 1846. Captain Brown was a Scottish naturalist, curator of the Manchester Museum and a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh

The work is notable for its detailed ornithological illustration and is particularly sought after in first-edition form. This example retains strong colour and character, making it both a decorative and historically interesting piece.

Presented in a complementary frame with AR70 glass, which offers a degree of protection from the damaging effects of sunlight while also reducing reflection so the detail and colour of the image can be appreciated clearly.

Height: 43 cm

Width: 35 cm
