Antonini Ancient Greek Vase Engravings - Set of 6
A fine group of 19th-century engravings from the first edition of Carlo Antonini’s study of ancient Greek and classical vases held in important Roman collections, including the Vatican Museums.
The engravings were published in Antonini’s Manuale di vari componenti la serie de vasi antichi si di marmo che de bronzo esistenti in Roma et Fuori, a work documenting notable examples of ancient vessels in marble and bronze.
The plates are of particular interest for their combination of archaeological detail, classical design and decorative appeal, reflecting the strong 19th-century fascination with the art and antiquities of Greece and Rome.
Each engraving is presented in a bespoke frame behind UV70 glass, which helps reduce reflection while offering a degree of protection from the damaging effects of sunlight.
