Bivort Pears - Set of 6
A fine set of six pear prints by Alexandre Bivort, the influential Belgian nurseryman and pomologist whose work helped document and promote the cultivation of fruit during the 19th century.
Bivort published two important works, Album de Pomologie between 1847 and 1851, followed by Annales de Pomologie Belge et Etrangere between 1853 and 1860. Together, these publications became important references for Belgian fruit varieties of the period.
Issued in parts by subscription over several years, the works featured detailed studies of apples and pears alongside grapes, cherries, plums and other fruits. Bivort’s illustrations combine botanical accuracy with considerable decorative appeal.
This set of six pear studies is presented in complementary silver gilt Italian frames behind AR70 glass, which helps reduce reflection while offering a degree of protection from the damaging effects of sunlight, allowing the detail and colour of the prints to remain clear and vivid.
