Woodville Engravings - Set of 8
A rare set of eight hand-coloured botanical engravings from the first edition of Medical Botany, published between 1790 and 1795.
The work was created as a comprehensive record of medicinal plants, combining detailed botanical illustration with descriptions of each plant’s appearance, habitat and traditional therapeutic use.
Medical Botany documented 274 indigenous and exotic plants recognised by the Royal Colleges of Physicians of London and Edinburgh, making it an important reference work in the history of both botany and medicine.
The engravings are particularly appealing for their combination of scientific accuracy and delicate hand-colouring, giving the set both historical interest and strong decorative quality.
Presented in bespoke frames behind UV70 glass, which helps reduce reflection while offering a degree of protection from the damaging effects of sunlight.
